2016 Early Projects

I thought I would take a break from battling this nasty August weather and update the blog.  We were able to button up a few small projects prior to the Summer and I wanted to share some of the photos that I took along the way.

(1)  Our bunker project on 7 finished up beautifully.  We removed 12 large troublesome Hickory trees from the west side of the green and 8 forward tee.  This work transformed the unplayable right side of the green surround with greatly improved turf and a new fine fescue banked bunker.

 (2) We tied that theme into the surrounds behind the forward tee on 8 by bringing the fine fescue to the pond bank and the rear of the tee. 

(3)  A new bridge has been added to our 14th green.  This replaced a bridge that was old when I got here in 1995...who knows how old it really was???
 

(4)  We also finally got the newly and once again reconstructed tees on 6 done.  This is unfortunately a project that takes place every 18-24 months because of our ever moving Earth - due to the fault line that runs from 12 tee up along the ridge to 6 tee and then back down to 13 tee.

 

(5) Finally, we were able to secure a new High Density Poly 4' main line on 13.  This replaced the infamous 4" Fire hose which acted as a temporary main for a number of years. This once again due to our moving Earth on the fault line.  The HDP has the ability to flex, and should provide water to the beach holes for quite a while, providing movement is relatively minimal.

once bunker was shaped all existing sod was stripped and removed.  The area was then prepped for new tall fescue

last step - addition and packing of sand.  we used 2/3 Pennsylvania quartzite to 1/3 native long island "Roanoke" sand.

8 FORWARD TEE

after tree removal we added about 60 yards of construction mix as a base for the tee

 

the surface was then laser graded

after grade was correct and new irrigation added, we installed "Crystal Blue" Bentgrass to the surface.

after the tee surface was done we installed a tall fescue border and surrounded that with no mow fine fescue

14 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

from arrival to completion....3 hours and 25 minutes.



6 TEE REBUILD

after stripping the surface we tried to remove as many rocks as possible.  due to the fact that we will have to do this over again in about 18 months, we did not bring in construction material.

ordered a few extra square feet of sod so we could repair the walk-up to 5 green at the same time.

 

 

 

Main line repair on 13

 

Our "Fire Hose" main line failed and we had no water on the beach for 5 days during a very hot stretch of weather.  Thanks to FRIENDS IRRIGATION and owner Richard Friend for quickly coming to our rescue and helping us install our new HDP main.  The new main is working great and much of our turf has recovered.

 

we hired Friends Irrigation from Deer Park to help us install the new HDP main.

HDP is actually melted together to form a super strong connection



new wires were added to replace y stretched existing communication and electric wires.  new wires were safely enveloped in conduit.
