Spring Update 2016 - Worldwind of activity

New Ownership at IHCC  -  2016 is underway!

Welcome to 2016!  New Ownership and a lot of action going on all over the property.  This is a very exciting time for us here in the golf course maintenance department.  Season preparations are under way and a lot of projects are on the table.  So much is happening that the best way to let you know is with photos of the action - so with that...here are quite a few, with captions so you may understand what is happening.  Enjoy.

Great results of late season deep tine aeration and heavy topdressing!  Pounding 2mm Sand into the channels providing air and water movement in our old push-up style greens.

practicing on the fairways, lots of it happening, not good for the course or other players.

Our Poa Annua reduction practices continue, this photo taken in Feb. Turf will respond to heat and recover.

THE TREES on 15, FINALLY!!!!!!!

Heavy topdressing.....

....provided great protection over the winter

The reason many of our trees are dangerous.  Rotted centers.

BIG Snow

Beautiful view of THE STACKS from our parking lot

unfortunate that people who think sleigh riding here is their right and then they abuse the property, doing "donuts" on our putting green.    Fortunate that our heavy topdressing did provide some protection and damage is currently growing out.

cleaning up the front of the club

Bradford Pears at the entrance were in bad shape, constant branch breaking and fracturing on trunks made them hazardous. Their extensive roots had invaded the lower half of the putting green.  Amazing how much damage tree roots do on a golf course.

yet another rotted center, very dangerous

This Maple on 10 was completely dead inside, Even had fungus growing on the outside.

New signs...?????

10 Green, showing the many color varieties of old greens.

Ladies lockers.....time for change,  New owners promised it and it happened!

more unreplaced practice shot divots on a fairway....not good.

our Assistant Phil flattening the old locker prior to placing them in the dumpster

As promised... new Red White and Blue distance markers in the fairways have been installed.

more practice shots.....

REALLY???  This was incredible to see in the middle of #8 fairway.  Note the Divots all laying nicely together.

New Welcome Shed being built at the cart area

New tees sign on 5....more to come

#7  Tree roots had become so thick and massive that turf would not grow here.

#7...new plan...new bunker and Fescue berm to be constructed.

Phil, digging through the roots

These surface roots ran all the way up into #7 green, most likely reason for the green quickly wilting in the summer...the tree was taking all the moisture in the soil.

More Tree roots heading into 7 green

Deer were eating everything they could reach over winter.

Mechanic Pat fabricating a new drag mat system in house.

Trap coming along on 7.

The "astro-turf" has been removed on #9.  improvements to the cartpath have been made.  We will soon be sodding the area.

New Tee Signs being installed!

repairs being made to the parking lot!!!!!

I hope you enjoyed the photos and update.  Plenty more to come.  We are really looking forward to you enjoying the course conditions provided this year.   We are off to a great start and at least a month ahead of last year.

See you on the Course soon....
